Medico-Pastoral Association (MPA), the first voluntary organization to step into the then unexplored territory of rehabilitating mentally ill persons in India, has for over 34 years, continued to make strides in this realm. Apart from providing a surrogate home for individuals with disabilities arising from psychiatric illness, it also caters to many other needs of such people.

At its centrally located campus spread over an area of 57,500 sq. ft. MPA houses its residential facilities for persons recovering with mental disorders. Facilities include the Half-Way Home, the Navajeevan Hostel, and Extended Care Hostel. These are staffed 24 hours by a multi-disciplinary staff. The programmes are aimed towards recovery, and reintegration into society through a "therapeutic community" approach.

MPA provides for persons between 19 and 55 years of age, and since inception has reached out to over 700 beneficiaries in its psycho-social rehabilitation and 10,000 in its non-residential programmes. Beneficiaries hail from all over India and other parts of the globe as well.

MPA also addresses areas of suicide prevention, counselling, promotion of mental health and encourages family and community participation.

MPA takes a holistic approach, which takes into consideration the physical, mental & spiritual dimensions of health.

Objective of MPA is to 'Meet the Needs of the Whole Man' through bringing into a fellowship of services a volunteer group, which includes doctors, social workers, psychologists, clergymen, members of the caring profession and individuals concerned with the mental health of our society.
